Behind the name Paula NewWoman you find the musician Signe Marie Schmidt-Jacobsen, also known as the singer and drummer in the girl band Daughters of Heavy and as the singer and songwriter in Under the Sherry Moon.
In her one woman show Paula NewWoman both plays the guitar and a toy keyboard (at the same time!) to accompany the material which solely consist of cover versions of old, legendary pop hits.
With her sensitive voice and unusual arrangements she brings new life to the famous and usually untouchable hits in a deep, meaningful and very unexpected way. On stage she brings dolls that look like Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Prince, Kim Wilde and Cher to perform the songs with her, and she built a moaning machine which she uses when she interprets ‘I touch Myself’ (Check out the video below)
It’s a total must-listen and must-see act!
Paula NewWoman will release her debut album on Minimum Recordings during the autumn of 2011.
