Edmund Oak – Queen Odea Escapes

Edmund Oak is an offshoot of the solo project Bengta Kabaret that, after two years and a series of concerts in Berlin, Copenhagen and Japan, mostly resembled a fixed unit constructed around Jonatan Bengta´s manifold, distinctive guitar and song patterns.

Wrapped in gongs, Hawaiian-inspired slide guitar and oblique, meditative chord patterns, Edmund Oak´s is a dark, intense, seductive music that pushes limits. A style that comes out of the folk singer/songwriter tradition, a soft spot for Ethiopic 70s jazz and Bengta´s often complex and ambiguous lyrics. Edmund Oak´s debut album, Queen Odea Escapes is recorded in Copenhagen´s St. Matthew Church with guest appearances by Blue Foundation, Under Byen and Jaconfetti. Whether it´s “ghost folk”, “freak folk” or something else altogether will have to be left up to the listener.
